Patients concerned about signs of aging around the eyes and on the forehead may be good candidates for a brow lift or eyelid lift in Fort Worth at Strock Plastic Surgery.
Faces age because of environmental factors such as sun exposure and gravitational changes that affect the skin and deeper tissues. These procedures can correct numerous facial aging issues safely and effectively.
In many cases, both procedures are performed in combination to provide more comprehensive rejuvenation. In this case, only a single recovery period would be necessary, making it even more convenient.
Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty, an eye lift, or undereye bag surgery) is a surgical method of rejuvenating the eye area by addressing excess tissue in the eyelids. It can remove loose skin, tighten sagging muscle tissue, and remove/reposition bulging fat.
The eyelift can be cosmetic, functional, or both. When it is being done for cosmetic purposes, it makes a person look younger and resolves a constantly tired or sad appearance. When it is functional, it removes the excess skin that causes the eyelids to droop into a person’s field of vision.
If you’re getting upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty, upper blepharoplasty is typically performed first. At the start of blepharoplasty, anesthesia is administered. A very small incision is then created.
After this, muscle tissue is tightened with internal sutures, excess skin is removed, and excess fat is repositioned and/or removed to create a more even surface. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures.
As the years past, our muscle tissues lose strength, excess fat collects in areas, and our skin sags. When these changes affect our upper eyelids, they can make them droop and develop wrinkles. Upper-lid sagging can even obstruct peripheral vision.
Through upper blepharoplasty, you can have the redundant tissue removed, restoring unobstructed vision and a more youthful appearance.
Upper eyelid surgery, or upper blepharoplasty, takes between 45 and 60 minutes. It involves making a small incision in the natural crease at the top of the upper eyelid. The incision will be camouflaged in this crease, meaning any resulting post-surgical marks will remain unnoticeable after the healing process is finished.
The lower eyelids also droop with age, resulting in the formation of bags under the eyes. Excess fat can form in the lower eyelids, giving them a puffy appearance. Lower eyelid surgery often called lower blepharoplasty or undereye bag surgery can be performed to address these issues.
The lower blepharoplasty procedure is a bit more complex than the upper blepharoplasty and can take between 60 and 90 minutes.
The technique used for performing this surgery depends on your eye anatomy and desired results. The two commonly used approaches are the transcutaneous incision and the transconjunctival incision.
The transcutaneous incision is made right below the lash line on the lower lid. It can be used to address excess skin and excess fat. The transconjunctival incision is made inside the eyelid, fully hiding any post-surgical marks. It is used specifically to remove and/or reposition bulging fat to create a more even appearance.
A brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift or foreheadplasty, is a cosmetic procedure used to smooth away forehead wrinkles and to raise sagging eyebrows. It involves the removal of excess skin tissue and tightening of underlying muscles.
The forehead lift begins with anesthesia. After this takes effect, incisions are made at or above the hairline. Excess skin is trimmed away and the underlying muscle tissue is tightened as needed. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Once your forehead lift or eyelid surgery is complete, you will return home to recover and allow your body to heal. During this period of downtime, you must follow Dr. Strock’s instructions diligently. This will lead to the best possible eyelid lift and brow lift results and minimize complications.
With either surgery, taking time off from work will be needed until you are cleared to return. A degree of bruising and swelling will be present in and around the operative area. These issues will only be temporary and will diminish in time. Cold compresses can aid in this process.
Protecting the skin of your eyelids will be vital after blepharoplasty surgery since the skin is very thin and will be quite vulnerable to damage. To accomplish this, always wear sunglasses, make sure to apply proper sunscreen, and avoid sun overexposure. You will also need to apply ointment as prescribed.
Once bruising and swelling have fully ameliorated, you will be able to see your full results.
In cases where an eyelid lift is performed for functional reasons, its cost may be partially or fully covered by health insurance. The price of a brow lift is not covered by health insurance, since it is a purely cosmetic procedure. If you are seeking assistance with eyelid lift and brow lift costs, we offer financing through CareCredit.
