What Is Liposuction?
Dr. Louis Strock offers liposuction in Fort Worth as a body contouring procedure and an essential part of surgeries that transfer fat to other parts of the breast, body, or face. Liposuction can be an excellent treatment option if you are in good overall health but have isolated areas of fat.
Lipo can help with fat removal and improve the soft tissue contours of several areas, including the abdomen, back, buttocks, waist, arms, chin, inner and outer thighs, and neck. It can be used as a technique during several contouring procedures, including gynecomastia surgery (for oversized male breasts) and the arm lift.
Individuals frustrated by pockets of fat that remain despite diet and exercise can request a consultation online to talk to Dr. Strock about whether lipo may be an appropriate treatment. Or feel free to call our office at 817-335-1616 to have a helpful staff member schedule an appointment.
Am I a Candidate?
Ideal candidates for lipo are individuals in good overall health with localized fat deposits that do not respond to lifestyle changes. An important consideration is a stable weight and a body mass index (BMI) within a healthy range. Lipo is not a weight-loss solution and is not recommended for those with significant medical conditions or unrealistic expectations.

Liposuction Preparation
Proper preparation for a liposuction procedure will help avoid complications. Dr. Strock will provide all the instructions to prepare effectively for your liposuction surgery, which typically includes these.
Stop consuming alcohol and tobacco
You will need to avoid alcohol and tobacco for some time before and after the liposuction surgery. Both drinking and smoking trigger inflammation and negatively affect the immune system. These can restrict rapid recovery from surgery and may also result in the development of complications.
Maintain a steady weight
Prior to your liposuction surgery, your body mass index (BMI) will be assessed. Liposuction will not be performed if it is higher than what’s considered optimal for the procedure. That’s why you must maintain a steady weight leading up to the day of the surgery. You should do it through a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Make arrangements for domestic help
Depending on the extent of your liposuction, you may be restricted from resuming your regular activities for a week or two. Because of this, if you have domestic responsibilities and/or have children to take care of, you must arrange help in advance for the recovery period. Also, arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.
Personalizing Your Procedure
Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Strock makes small, discreet incisions and inserts a cannula, a thin tube used to break up and suction out fat. The surgery typically lasts between one and three hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.
Both conventional and ultrasonic liposuction methods use a modified “tumescent” or superwet technique. It involves Dr. Strock using large amounts of diluted local anesthetic solution to pretreat the fatty deposits before surgical removal. Most lipo procedures, other than small areas, are performed under general anesthesia to allow for safe monitoring and position changes intraoperatively that allow for optimal results.
Liposuction is often combined with breast enhancement or other body contouring procedures. Recent technological advances have allowed for the possibility of using the fat removed during lipo to add volume elsewhere, most commonly to the breast or face.

The Liposuction Healing Process
Liposuction recovery is a gradual process that is key to achieving your best results. Dr. Strock will provide personalized aftercare instructions to guide your recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
Expect mild swelling, bruising, and soreness in the first few days. A compression garment should be worn for about four weeks to support healing, minimize swelling, and help your skin conform to your new shape.
Most patients can return to light activities within a week and resume more strenuous tasks, including exercise, after four to six weeks. To support optimal healing, stay hydrated, eat nutritious meals, avoid smoking, and follow all post-op instructions closely.
Benefits of Liposuction
