Customizing Your Procedure
Both conventional and ultrasonic liposuction methods use a modified “tumescent” or superwet technique, during which Dr. Strock uses large amounts of diluted local anesthetic solution to pretreat the fatty deposits prior to surgical removal. Most lipo procedures, other than small areas, are performed under general anesthesia to allow for safe monitoring and position changes intraoperatively that allow for optimal results. Liposuction is often combined with breast enhancement or other body contouring procedures.
Recent advances in technology have allowed for the possibility of using the fat removed during liposuction to add volume elsewhere, most commonly to the breast or face.

Liposuction Preparation
Proper preparation for a liposuction procedure will help to avoid complications. Dr. Strock will provide you with all the instructions necessary for preparing for your liposuction surgery effectively.
Preparation instructions typically include the following:
- Stop consuming alcohol and tobacco – You will need to avoid alcohol and tobacco for some time before and after the liposuction surgery. Both drinking and smoking trigger inflammation and negatively affect the immune system. They can restrict rapid recovery from surgery and may also result in the development of complications.
- Maintain a steady weight – Prior to your liposuction surgery, your body mass index (BMI) will be assessed. If it is higher than what’s considered optimal for the procedure, liposuction will not be performed. That’s why it’s imperative that you maintain a steady weight leading up to the day of the surgery. This must be done through a healthy diet and regular exercise.
- Make arrangements for domestic help – Depending on the extent of your liposuction, you may be restricted from resuming your regular activities for a week or two. Because of this, if you have domestic responsibilities and/or have children to take care of, you must arrange help in advance for the recovery period. You should also arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.

Postoperative recovery following liposuction entails a short period of activity restriction and a pressure garment to be worn for about 4 weeks.
