We are pleased to announce that the third edition Surgery of the Breast…., edited by Scott Spear, M.D., Chief of Plastic Surgery at Georgetown University, has just been published.  This is viewed by many in the plastic surgery field as the definitive textbook on breast surgery, both cosmetic and reconstructive.  Dr. Strock wrote the chapter  “Transaxillary Breast Augmentation” (breast implant placement using a short incision in the armpit) in the section of the textbook that focused on Cosmetic Breast Surgery.  Additionally, Dr. Strock wrote the chapter on  “Two-Stage Tissue Expander with Implant Breast Reconstruction” (the most popular method of immediate breast reconstruction in the United States) following mastectomy for breast cancer, in the section of the textbook that focused on Breast Reconstruction.  Dr. Strock is a leading educator in both cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery and appreciates the opportunity to work with Dr. Spear on this project.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Strock’s work has again been featured in a recent publication, in this case the “Atlas of Breast Augmentation” written by Bill Adams.  Dr. Strock contributed to the project by writing the chapter on “Transaxillary Breast Augmentation” (also known as armpit breast augmentation, where breast implants are placed using a short incision in the armpit, allowing patients to have breast augmentation with no incisions on their breasts).  Dr. Strock also co-wrote the chapter, with Dr. Adams, the chapter on postoperative care, outlining his postoperative routines following transaxillary breast augmentation.  Dr. Strock also contributed video of his transaxillary endoscopic breast augmentation technique that is provided with the textbook.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Strock’s recent article “Transaxillary Endoscopic Silicone Gel Breast Augmentation” has been published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, an indexed, peer-reviewed journal that is the journal of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The article outlines his latest refinements for placement of silicone gel breast implants using an armpit incision (transaxillary approach), with the aid of an endoscope that allows for precise creation of the tissue pocket for the breast implant. He has routinely offered this approach in his patients seeking breast augmentation using saline breast implants dating back to 1996, and has modified the technique for routine use in the placement of silicone gel implants since 2006, when the United States Food and Drug Administration allowed silicone gel breast implants to be used for augmentation . This approach using an armpit incision allows his patients the option of having breast implants placed with no incisions on the breast. Dr. Strock has been a leading educator on this subject for many years, and has taught numerous instructional courses and presented his work at national meetings and educational symposia sponsored by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Breast Augmentation: The Different Approaches to Implant Placement

Dr. Strock provides the option of many different incision sites when having breast augmentation surgery. Incisions can be made in a number of places. For example, incisions made in the armpit (transaxillary approach) are easily hidden, and allows Dr. Strock visible access with an endoscope to create a precise pocket for the implants with no incisions on your breasts. Other incision sites include an incision at the base of your breast (inframammary approach) or around the areola (periareolar approach). The incision around the areola (periareolar approach) is typically not used unless requested or if a breast lift is needed. Recovery time is the same whether you go through the armpit or the base of the breast.

Dr. Strock will go through extensive detail in a consultation to explain all aspects of the procedure, implants, incision types and recovery. Contact our office for more detailed information at 817-335-1616 or e-mail us at elena@drstrock.com.
